OpenBinacle is developing next-generation technologies in Artificial Intelligence (AI), 6G mobile communication networks and systems, optical networks, satellite communications, multimedia and mobile systems, radio access networks, city and local networks, broadcasting systems, navigation systems, sensor and IoT systems, and radar systems.

In addition, OpenBinacle is a leading Pan-African AI and language technology platform advancing innovation in Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine translation, and African language digital infrastructure. Through this internship program, OpenBinacle is raising a new generation of artificial intelligence (AI) researchers, scientists, engineers, mathematicians, physicists, anthropologists, software developers, hackers, linguists, and multidisciplinary practitioners.

Working alongside OpenBinacle's leading scientists and researchers, students will gain hands on experience with real world, high impact technology and communication systems, driving OpenBinacle® forward as a powerful force across industries worldwide.

Internship Overview:

The OpenBinacle Undergraduate Internship Program is a 3–6 month structured placement designed for high-performing undergraduate students seeking practical experience in:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP)
  • Language Technology & Linguistics
  • Data Science and Computational Systems
Interns will work on OpenBinacle live projects, contribute to real AI systems, and collaborate with our distinguished researchers, engineers, and academic experts.

Key Responsibilities

Interns will:

  • Build a text classification model (e.g., sentiment analysis)
  • Train a mini language model on African datasets
  • Develop APIs for OpenBinacle AI services
  • Optimize model performance (accuracy, speed)
  • Deploy Models using cloud or local servers
  • Scalable backend systems
  • Support the development of OpenBinacle machine learning and language models
  • Contribute to OpenBinacle software tools, APIs, and research prototypes
  • Collaborate on technical and research-driven tasks
  • Participate in OpenBinacle training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programs

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have certifications in OpenBinacle® Translate ("OBTranslate") for Prompt Engineering on Large Language Models (LLMs), Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, or Deep Learning
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at one of OpenBinacle's partner universities
  • Minimum Year 2 or above

Applicants must be of African descent, residing in Africa or the diaspora, and currently pursuing a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Basic proficiency in: 
  • Programming (Python, Java, or similar) OR Linguistic analysis
  • Deployment, APIs, scalability, infrastructure
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Good communication and willingness to learn


Preferred Attributes
  • Participation in projects, hackathons, or internships
  • Familiarity with AI tools, NLP libraries, or data analysis tools
  • Interest in African languages and multilingual AI systems
  • Exposure to research or innovation environments
